“You Didn't Want Us Here”
Abstract
Olivia, a first-time mother, experienced spontaneous rupture of membranes along with mild contractions during the night at 38+4 weeks’ gestation. In the morning, she contacted the hospital and was advised to come in for a check-up. At the hospital, her ruptured membranes were confirmed. She was advised to go home for up to 24 hours to await spontaneous labour and to contact the hospital the following morning. She was told that if labour had not started, she would have her labour induced due to the risk of infection following prolonged rupture of membranes. Olivia and her husband were satisfied with this plan and returned home. She continued to have contractions which were mild at first but became more intense through the night.
