Citizenship reimagined
Abstract
This commentary underscores the crucial role of temporality in reimagining citizenship. By foregrounding the fluid and evolving nature of social time, it advocates for a vision of citizenship as a right to a socially just and eco-socially sustainable future. Recognising the temporal dimension is essential in navigating today’s shifting social landscapes, as it: (a) Encourages critical engagement with transformative forces, including the green transition and movements for equity and representation, (b) Expands the framework of citizenship to encompass emerging domains of rights and responsibilities, thereby reshaping its traditional boundaries.
