Director Fernando Martins discusses his introduction into the art of Commedia dell’Arte, his studies with Donato Sartori and a variety of experts in the form in Italy, his artistic practice as a director and a mask-maker, and the challenges and successes of working in a traditional form while creating new material and content for commedia in his native Brazil.
