Anna Penati and Marco Zavarise – Humanlab (Italy/Denmark)
Abstract
Anna Penati and Marco Zavarise of HumanLab review their history, describe the research they have conducted into the way in which masks cause a response in the actor through pressure points, and discuss their practice with contemporary Commedia dell’Arte, emphasizing collaborations with artists and cultures outside of the normal realm of commedia, creating potent “contaminations” with Scandinavian mythology, dance, and other forms of expression. They reveal their approach to the discipline of commedia and their concerns about the survival of the form in the modern landscape.
