Abstract

Carlo Boso discusses his life and work as a practitioner of Commedia dell’Arte. From first encounters with Giorgio Strehler at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano, to his vision of the form and its practice today, the immensely influential Boso, who has shaped the working practices of many artists and companies, examines the actor’s relationship with the mask and his own relationship with the history of Western theater, identifying commedia’s place in the canon of drama.
