Abstract

Tim Robbins reflects on his early training in Commedia dell’Arte with George Bigot, his ongoing connections with the Théâtre du Soleil and Dario Fo and the influence of this work on the growth of his company The Actors’ Gang. He assesses the impact of commedia on modern audiences and emphasizes the rebellious nature of the form, with particular reference to his play Harlequino, On To Freedom, and its performance history in China.
