Afterword
Abstract
This afterword asserts the value of thinking about the histories of various forms of gendered identity, and sexual preference. It establishes a point of continuity between the twenty-first century, and some of the major issues which preoccupied the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. It identifies that the plethora of LGBTQ+ identities which are represented in this volume, and which are often the source of contemporary censure, have in fact always existed. The chapters included in the volume demonstrate how such LGBTQ+ histories have been navigated, and how our knowledge of texts across a range of media can still be expanded.
