Abstract

The University Years, The Ipswich and Salem Pastorates (1921–1947), and the Beginning of a Dream Analysis trace Guntrip’s early academic years, his training as a minister, the inception of a counseling practice, and his introduction to psychoanalytic practice as an analysand under Drs. Crichton-Miller and Clifford Allen. Although lasting for about six years between the years 1936–1942, with a diagnosis of ‘a mother-fixated narcissism, Guntrip felt the Freudian approach did not touch many areas of his sense of self.’ Further analysis was needed.
