Abstract

Chapter 8 focuses on designing and delivering mentoring programmes in membership organisations. The four cases represented here are small, voluntary membership organisations, some within limited resources which are effectively managed internally, and one of them is a network of women committed to their personal and professional growth. MOZAIC reciprocal mentoring programme and Network Ireland offer examples of reciprocal and peer mentoring programmes designed and delivered to meet the needs of its members, centred on harnessing the knowledge, skills and expertise of the members to build a community of practice and enhance learning and development through one-to-one peer and reciprocal mentoring. Global Majority Mentoring Programme is set up within a membership organisation representing London’s higher education sector and the voluntary mentoring programme supports career progression of global majority ethnic staff by matching a senior mentor to an early career mentee from two different institutions. Resilient Pilot presents a facilitated peer-supported development through professional practice-based mentoring within a competency-based training programme for airline pilots. Overall, the case studies offer some key messages from the programme managers, which provide an invaluable roadmap to setting up and running successful mentorship programmes in membership organisations.
