Abstract

This chapter presents a critical analysis and interpretation of the findings outlined in the previous chapter, focusing on their implications within the context of mathematics education. Drawing on the study’s research questions and theoretical frames, the discussion seeks to connect the empirical results to the existing literature, highlight patterns, and explore possible explanations for the observed outcomes. Particular attention is given to how the results contribute to a deeper understanding of pre-service mathematics teachers’ (PMTs’) development of lesson design capacity, their understandings of reasoning and proving (R&P) in school mathematics classes, and perceptions of R&P in the curriculum. The chapter also considers the broader educational significance of the findings and identifies areas for future research and practical application.
