Abstract
This book reports on the MaTeK (Enhancement of Research Excellence in Ma thematics Te acher K nowledge) project. That project was conducted by didactician researchers from five universities which prepare future secondary mathematics teachers – each university in a different European country. It provides a fine example of the spirit of ERME (the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education), the organisation associated with the series in which this book appears. That spirit is one of communication between different countries, of cooperation between different approaches, and of collaboration between researchers differing in experience.
