Abstract

This chapter examines questions of methodology, asking what it is and what it does in the world. Through engaging with these questions, a lecture and set of exercises were created to encourage students to participate in the construction of their own learning by querying measurement as a practice, as an axiological construct, and – through a posthuman and new materialist lens – as an onto-epistemic proposition that is very active in shaping world(s) past, present, and future. At stake are practices of decoloniality in classrooms, in student writing, and student engagement. The piece also considers how the use of performance in lectures and in research practice adds a vital layer of enquiry that allows for decolonial critique to be enacted in institutions in ways that matter.
