Abstract

Too often, research focused on Black women and healing is considered “not academic enough,” the community itself “not significant enough,” and Black women researchers are not foregrounded enough. This chapter introduces the 4C methodology and moisturized and wrapped healing circles as a rejection of extractive research that is all too common in the academy. Drawing on Black methodologies such as Afrocentricity and endarkened storywork, this chapter frames the groundwork that shaped the subversive practices in research and made way for my 4C methodology.
