Abstract

The impacts of terminal illness on individuals are significant, affecting them physically, emotionally, and psychologically as well as their loved ones. Preparing for death involves essential actions such as opening conversations, advance care planning, and decision-making regarding end of life preferences. As individuals seek comfort, meaning, and support, it is also crucial to address their spiritual, religious, and personal needs. Only by respecting an individual&s;s autonomy, integrity, and final wishes can a dignified death be ensured. End of life care pathways, including those through palliative care and hospice care, aim to provide comprehensive support that addresses the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of care. This chapter will discuss the impacts of terminal illness and the importance of preparing for death, addressing spiritual and personal needs, promoting dying with dignity, and implementing appropriate end of life care pathways.
