Abstract

This chapter introduces the key concepts of Appreciative Inquiry and tells the story of how Ai was “discovered” by David Cooperrider and Suresh Srivastava. The chapter contrasts Ai with the traditional problem-solving approach and then enunciates the principles that form the basis of Appreciative Inquiry. It then introduces to Ai models including the 5-D (expanded to 6-D by the authors) and the SOAR model. The authors then share their experiences of using Ai for organizational transformation and the key features that differentiates Ai from other models. Lastly, the chapter introduces some of the criticisms of Ai as a method and authors give their perspectives to overcome those issues.
