Abstract

This author has always enjoyed science and the scientific approach, so it was quite natural for him to follow a quantitative approach to geographical discovery. Regardless of his location, he cannot recall a time when he felt otherwise. For him, the ability both to develop and test theories of spatial reasoning and behavior and to assess the probability that they are wrong are vital components of geographical inquiry: without these abilities, a fog descends. This chapter describes a lifetime of evolution in terms of both physical location and academic thinking. The former is a journey which takes in six nations, ten universities, and involves numerous meanders and academic transhumances; the latter is a single path unwaveringly followed.
