Abstract

This is a personal reflection of my journey into becoming a sociologist and the role that Ken Plummer played. The chapter begins with a reflection upon my early workplaces and my first university, and how Ken helped me to find the language to make sense of these experiences. It reflects upon Ken’s passion for sociology, his engagement and generosity in his teaching, and his creativity and humanity in his research. It highlights how Ken Plummer helped to shape my career and how he was instrumental in creating a new generation of researchers.
