Abstract

A tribute to Professor Ken Plummer, this chapter is a personal account of how I met Ken, the influences he has had on my academic career and queer activism, and how our relationship evolved from teacher and student to colleague and lifelong friend. Drawing on personal recollections, Ken’s own writings, and materials from interviews and his website, I trace my intellectual journey with this great thinker and examine his impact on my work. Ken’s contributions have enabled me to see the connections between individual experience and broader social structures, helped me challenge traditional conceptual binaries, and led me to ground sociology in concrete human experiences through storytelling.
