Abstract

First, welcome and thank you for deciding to take a look. This book has been written as an invitation to step into the evolving world of counselling psychology. As its title suggests, it aims to introduce what we believe to be some of the key issues facing counselling psychology at this point in time. Rather than acting as a technical manual or an exhaustive overview, it offers an introduction to key philosophies, theories, research, and practices that are currently shaping the field. Whilst as authors we are based in the United Kingdom, it is likely to have international relevance, given the global nature of psychology as a discipline. It is designed to support those who are beginning or continuing to think about how psychology can be applied in ways that support not just the alleviation of distress but also growth, justice, and meaningful connection.
