Abstract

This chapter reflects upon the development towards becoming anti-oppressive in counselling psychology. A move further towards social justice informed practice and an acknowledgement of the impact of social and political factors on psychological well-being can be seen across many disciplines of psychology. Here, we draw on the rich history of anti-oppressive writing and practice from within counselling psychology and discuss the difficulties with staying true to this way of working. We also look to the future and highlight areas where, as counselling psychologists, we should continue to do better and be bolder over the years to come. We focus on ‘becoming’ and the importance of ongoing reflection, growth, and learning about social justice and anti-oppressive practices.
