Abstract

In the writer’s third age, he has finally escaped from being a full-time professional needing to earn money to fund a particular lifestyle. Why did it take him two years, the witnessing of someone dying, and multiple aftershocks to sufficiently shake him to reinvent his life to especially purpose, his entwined professional identity, and the addiction of self-development? He has come to realise that these “norms” were externally centred motivations, existing to serve the needs of those actors who wanted to benefit from what he could do for them more than accommodating what was truly best for him. He has followed an intense transformational Supercycle of growing self-knowledge, centred on replacing purpose with faith, and striving for contentment. The writer is finally easy in his own skin, having achieved something beyond reinvention and more akin to rebirth.
