Abstract

The policies and regulations are defined in a top-down order for Development Control in the urban areas in most countries, including India. Urban and Regional Development Plans Formulation and Implementation ( URDPFI ) Guidelines, as notified by the Government of India, define the development controls at the national level, and these are subsequently controlled by other policies and statutory tools at the state and city level, like Master Plans, zoning regulations, Building Byelaws, etc. Development Control regulations oversee a city&s;s urbanisation process and guarantee effective development and public welfare. The urban planning and development scenario in Delhi has been challenging, considering its strategic location and geopolitical situation. This study will review and assess the notion of urban legibility and wayfinding in Indian cities and present a policy perspective about the applicable and relevant policies, development control regulations, and other legislations in the city of Delhi, India.
