Digital Platforms and Platformization of Consumer Culture
Abstract
Every day in the digital age usually starts off with a simple gesture: reaching for the smartphone. Before getting out of bed, many check the weather, scroll social media, read the news, or reply to messages – interacting with multiple platforms almost unconsciously. These platforms mediate not only communication and movement but also consumption, identity expression, and social meaning-making. What may seem like convenient digital services reflects a deeper transformation: platforms co-construct environments, directing behavior through data extraction and shaping what becomes visible, shareable, or profitable.
