Abstract

Teaching about the Holocaust is a way to remember victims and survivors, and just as important, teaching about the Holocaust is a way to ensure that such a tragic event in history never occurs again. As the topic is complex, teachers must be thoughtful of how they introduce students to the Holocaust. Teachers need to know the historical background and possess the pedagogical tools for teaching about the topic. This chapter provides an overview of children's literature to use when teaching about the Holocaust. The chapter provides the perspective of both a museum educator and a teacher. Through critical conversations about children's literature and building a cadre of student upstanders, teachers can contribute to combating antisemitism within their community.
