Abstract

This chapter examines the second term of the Widodo administration, spanning from 2019 to 2024. Widodo and his allies easily subverted and undermined the rule of law during his second term, from the relocation of the capital to the dismantling of democratic accountability during the COVID-19 pandemic and the passage of the Omnibus Law of Job Creation. Furthermore, Widodo and his allies also attempted to amend the constitution to allow him to serve a third term. But this effort failed due to internal opposition from his own party, PDI-P. Nevertheless, Widodo and his allies captured the Court and violated the rule of law to pave the way for his son to run as the vice president, although the son did not fulfill the statutory requirement. In sum, the reformed Constitution is nothing more than a parchment of paper that fails to stop the rise of the authoritarian constitutionalist regime of Joko Widodo. Thus, it is time for a new generation to adopt an entirely new constitution.
