Multiple starting points of critique
Abstract
This chapter demonstrates that critique from powerful positions emerges through diverse pathways, challenging theories that limit critique to marginalised experiences. Starting points include emancipatory values and empathy (particularly regarding sexism, homophobia and antisemitism), aspects of self-relation (class background, gender identity, suffering from masculinity norms) and turning points (access to knowledge, changing company cultures, social mobility experiences). The analysis illustrates how individual biography, social encounters and cultural shifts can enable emancipatory critical perspectives.
