Delectable Viewing
Abstract
During the COVID-19 pandemic, like many, I watched digital theatre, and like many, I baked. In this chapter, I consider baking as an extension of spectatorship as a way of exploring the new dynamics that emerge between audience and performers once they are no longer occupying the same physical space. This chapter studies a range of digital performances, some that include food or baking, and others that do not. In reexamining how audiences respond to performances, in this instance through the creation of food, I reconsider the ways in which our shared sense of here is constructed in theatre.
