Abstract

This final chapter focuses on numbers of issues relevant for using theory to inform practice, in a context of increasing concern about the wellbeing of many of the world’s children. These issues include the nature of knowledge and the changing role of universities. The scientist-practitioner model, developmentally appropriate practice, applied developmental science and developmental resilience science are all concepts with specific relevance for the application of psychological child development knowledge. More widely used concepts such as implementation science, quality assurance and translational science are also addressed. Examples are given of how theory can be applied in practice, taking account of context and using mixed methods. The role of practice in informing theory is also considered.
