Abstract

This chapter introduces the concept of decolonial housing by examining the limitations of dominant Western housing models and advocating for alternative approaches. It explores multigenerational housing with case studies from the Global South and Tribal and Indigenous North American communities. Traditional Chinese Tulou structures are analyzed for their sustainable communal living, while incremental and self-build housing models from Latin America illustrate flexibility and adaptation. The chapter develops a theoretical framework for decolonial housing. The conclusion summarizes the findings and emphasizes community-driven solutions for a just and equitable housing future.
