Abstract

Leveraging the power of film to transform the field of urban planning is one of the goals of the new documentary film Sa Amin: Our Place . Produced in collaboration with the South of Market Pilipinas Cultural Heritage District in San Francisco, the film has the potential to change how city departments in San Francisco and other cities engage with grassroots communities. The film stands as a moral record and increases the visibility of a long-standing Filipino community to the “outside world” and to itself. This chapter recounts the methodology behind the production of SA AMIN, which can be replicated by and for other communities in the hopes of changing the course of urban plans towards more equitable and just cities.
