Abstract

The introduction clarifies book-wide choices in language and terms, then explains the need for layered theoretical and methodological frameworks when studying education. The theoretical framework includes prismatic theory, which emphasizes mapping and integration of multiple perspectives; Dis/ability Critical Race Studies, which challenges hegemonic assumptions and amplifies marginalized voices; and the conceptual framework for studying professional learning communities. The methodological framework involves the use of prismatic inquiry, prismatic phenomenology, and arts-based research. This integrates multiple lenses to examine the human lived experience, narratives exploring the meaning and experiences of teaching and leading, and arts-based research provides a third lens for data analysis. The chapter sets the stage to examine the implementation of restorative practices and the model for complex change in a professional learning community. Finally, the introduction offers a brief introduction to the chapters.
