Abstract

This chapter uses the case material from four children to illustrate how to facilitate the finding and befriending of parts. Percy, a boy riddled with anxiety, learns about his Worry Monster and his Angry Devil and finds compassion and connection with them, calming his anxious mind. Kathleen works with the Joker who often gets her in trouble by fibbing when she tries to cheer up the grown-ups. Charlotte is a teen with separation anxiety. Charlotte is able to dialogue with her Anxious part and sees that it is there to help her. Mako’s fear about moving is uncovered by focusing on a part that says she wants to die. Their drawings of parts are endearing.
