Rubrics Produce Fair Scores and Grades
Abstract
This chapter is about using rubrics to produce fair scores and grades. First, we discuss why and how to use rubrics to connect formative assessment and grading. Then, we discuss three quality criteria for scores and grades: validity, reliability, and fairness. We present ways to ensure and to check for each of these criteria.
