Abstract

Informal trading is a crucial component of the economies of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, contributing significantly to economic growth and livelihood sustenance. However, it is often overlooked in economic development discourse. This research aims to explore the contributions of informal traders, the unique challenges they face within their specific national contexts, and the policies and strategies that can facilitate their development. By understanding the dynamics of informal trading, policymakers and stakeholders can develop targeted interventions to support this sector, fostering inclusive economic growth. The research will employ a qualitative approach, focusing on a literature review and case studies of informal traders in urban and rural areas of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. The research is expected to provide insights into the contributions of informal traders to the economies of the BRICS countries and the challenges they face. By understanding the dynamics of informal trading and implementing supportive policies, the BRICS nations can harness the contributions of informal traders to promote sustainable and inclusive economic growth.
