Abstract

This opening chapter sets out the focus and purpose of the book before taking the reader through key reflections on what a geography dissertation is, why a dissertation matters, and why this work should make a contribution to knowledge (and what this idea means in practice). Further overarching practical advice on how to engage an audience and ‘hook’ the reader into the narrative being presented is followed by an outline of what makes – in general terms – a good dissertation.
