Abstract

This chapter presents the Miami University model as an exemplar for establishing and sustaining faculty learning communities (FLCs). It outlines the core principles of the model, including structured facilitation, intentional cohort design as well as alignment with institutional priorities. The chapter describes the developmental stages of FLCs, from recruitment and orientation to sustained collaboration and assessment. Examples of implementation highlight how FLCs foster interdisciplinary dialogue and promote long-term faculty growth. Assessment strategies demonstrate the impact of FLCs on both participants and institutions. By providing a replicable framework, the chapter offers practical guidance for directors and educational developers seeking to adopt or adapt FLCs as high-impact faculty development practices that strengthen teaching cultures and institutional engagement.
