Abstract

This chapter examines the role of mentorship in faculty development, emphasizing the value of both formal and informal structures in supporting professional growth. It explores models of mentorship, including one-to-one, peer, and group approaches, and considers how mentorship can address challenges faced by faculty across career stages. The chapter highlights how effective mentorship fosters belonging and builds leadership capacity particularly for underrepresented faculty. Practical considerations such as mentor training and evaluation methods are discussed, as are institutional challenges like recognition of mentorship as a scholarly contribution. By showcasing mentorship as both a developmental and cultural practice, the chapter argues that intentional mentorship programs can strengthen community.
