Abstract

Writing this book has been quite an adventure. Over the last year, we traveled a long path using the same trekking approach we recommend in this book. Now we find: ♦ Our boots supported our work and remained as comfortable as ever. ♦ Our backpacks returned full of more ideas and souvenirs to remind us of all the places we have been. ♦ Our journal holds insightful reflections, many notes, lots of questions, lovely sketches, and rich memories. ♦ Our camera captured photos of important moments and places we visited—ones we cherished and did not want to forget. ♦ Our water bottles refreshed and renewed our minds and bodies whenever we got tired. ♦ The map (our book outline) is full of handwritten notes, scratched-out text, ideas from our scholar friends, watermarks, wrinkles from being crowded in our backpacks, and rips from overuse. ♦ Our sunglasses allowed us to see a variety of ideas and each other more clearly as our perspectives broadened and changed. ♦ We are out of sunscreen, so now it is time for a new tube for our next adventure. ♦ We appreciated having our walking poles for the time when this project seemed too steep or too rocky. We even relied on our poles while going downhill to finish this project so as not to slip.
