Abstract

Teaching is a highly complex and deeply personal profession. Mutual mentoring is a non-hierarchical professional development approach that brings mid-career teachers together as teacher-friends. In this approach, teachers create a community of practice with one another and develop as critical and creative thinking partners. This chapter describes the benefits of teacher-friend mentoring and how to choose a trekking partner. This chapter uses a trekking metaphor to capture the process of choosing to venture out and explore someplace new and fresh.
