Abstract

Communication is a central feature of mentoring because it sets the stage for exploring alternative viewpoints and building collective understanding. Mid-career teachers are adept at communicating regularly about their teaching practice. This chapter describes how teacher-friends can use three types of communication—dialogue, conversation, and good talk—to support their professional and personal growth. It explores how teacher-friends can tap the power of these three types of communication on their trekking adventures. The chapter also discusses the value of teachers’ self-talk to advance learning.
