Abstract

Teachers face universal challenges affecting their practice, yet most are also resilient. In this chapter, we prompt them to pause, examine their assumptions, and unpack the challenges they encounter. After describing teachers’ resilience, this chapter examines the dimensions of resilience (professional, social, motivational, and emotional) and reviews the recent research. Next, it describes how disorienting dilemmas related to transformative learning and lead teachers to grow professionally. This chapter also explores teacher identity and the multiple identities they hold.
