Analytical Frameworks
Abstract
This chapter introduces two analytical frameworks that guide the development and analysis of the contrasting cases in this book. The first framework, Teaching through Example-based Problem Solving (TEPS), documented in my prior research book, is illustrated through the contrasting cases presented here. The second framework, ICAP (Interactive, Constructive, Active, and Passive), is employed to analyze and justify the cases by identifying four levels of students’ cognitive engagement that correspond to deep or shallow learning. Both frameworks are applied throughout the book to help readers understand the distinctions between the contrasting cases and their instructional significance.
