Abstract

Student recruitment in higher education is evolving, with traditional methods increasingly proving inadequate in addressing the diverse needs of prospective students and the needs of institutions in attracting new populations effectively and efficiently. Conventional approaches, such as mass mailings, general advertising, and college fairs, often lack personalization, scalability, and general operational efficiency, resulting in suboptimal outcomes. This chapter explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming student recruitment through advanced techniques like personalized outreach, predictive modeling, hyper-personalization, and customized campaigns. AI enables institutions to harness data analytics and machine learning algorithms to identify high-potential students, streamline operations, and tailor communication strategies. Key tools, including chatbots, predictive analytics platforms, and social media listening technologies empower institutions to better engage prospective students. Of the few case studies to date, those available illustrate the impact of AI-driven recruitment, highlighting increased enrollment rates, reduced summer melt, and improved student diversity. By leveraging AI, higher education institutions of any size can transcend the limitations of traditional recruitment methods, focusing resources on personalized, data-driven strategies that meet the expectations of today’s students. This chapter underscores the transformative potential of AI in shaping the future of student recruitment to achieve institutional enrollment goals in today’s competitive landscape.
