Abstract

AI could help combat conspiracy theories, but what are the psychological and ethical implications of using AI as a therapeutic tool? Drawing on recent research, including a groundbreaking 2024 study, this chapter shows how AI-powered conversations successfully reduced conspiracy beliefs by 20% through personalized dialogue and psychological support. However, tech companies’ profit motives and control over AI infrastructure could undermine these therapeutic benefits. By analyzing both the promising results and serious concerns around AI therapy, Chapter 6 offers a balanced perspective on using artificial intelligence to address the growing challenge of conspiracy thinking in our digital age.
