Engendering South-South and Triangular Cooperation
Abstract
The chapter analyses key intergovernmental literatures and inter-agency strategic framework designed to guide the work of engendering South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC) in support of the multistakeholders including multilateral system, States, UN Organizations, National Institutions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The chapter sheds light on gender gender-responsive approach to SSTC. It focuses on the scope of greater research and analysis to inform inclusive South-South policies and programmes while forging partnerships and mobilizing resources. This also contributes to support key stakeholders in facilitating access and partnership to SSTC knowledge, solutions, and sources of finance for gender equality and empowerment of women and girls. Given the sharp rise of populism, growing challenges to gender, human rights, diversity and the inclusion agenda, and decreasing financial envelopes across bilateral and multilateral systems, an examination of the ways and means to strengthen the United Nations development system&s;s capacities to foster an innovative approach with support from SSTC becomes an urgent imperative. The bilateral and multilateral efforts, cross-regional work, joint and multi-country initiatives must be gender responsive, and inclusive enough to leave no one behind (LNOB), particularly historically disadvantaged groups, and communities and people facing stigma, discrimination, and different forms of marginalization.
