Abstract

The research investigates the implementation of participatory pedagogy in Moroccan early childhood education (ECE) through in-service teacher training inspired by Finnish ECE practices. The study focuses on supporting teachers in shifting from traditional, teacher-led approaches to participatory learning environments where children's voices and choices are emphasized. This method centers on reflective practices and distributed leadership, promoting horizontal collaboration and a culture of shared understanding among educators. Data were collected through interviewing and observing Moroccan ECE professionals in a preschool utilizing a Finnish-inspired curriculum. The research questions investigate how the method and pedagogical leadership structure facilitate professional development and teachers’ implementation of participatory practices and children's active involvement. Findings reveal that ongoing in-service training and collaborative leadership between local coordinators and Finnish educational experts support educators in adopting participatory methods while emphasizing the importance of mutual learning and cooperation among stakeholders. The training contributes to professional growth and distributed leadership, driving a significant cultural shift toward inclusive, student-centered ECE in Morocco.
