Abstract

Today, children are surrounded by media that shape how they see themselves and the world. Much of this content targets their insecurities, which can affect their confidence and choices. That’s why teaching Media and Information Literacy (MIL) is so important. It’s not just about thinking critically, but also about helping kids build self-respect, and care for themselves. When we show children how to question and understand media messages, they become more resilient to negative influences and learn to see themselves in a healthier way. The goal is to help them choose media that support their growth and values, and to ignore what brings them down. By building these skills, we give young people the tools to move through digital and cultural spaces with confidence and balance.
