Interpretation in Melanie Klein's Writing
Abstract
Focusing on Klein’s pioneering work with children, this chapter traces her radical extension of interpretation into preverbal fantasy and the earliest object relations. Klein transforms interpretation into an immediate, concrete, and emotionally charged intervention, aiming to address primitive anxieties and symbol formation from infancy. The chapter also addresses her technical innovations and controversies, especially around directness and the use of projective identification.
