Abstract

In this chapter interpretation is reimagined through Donald Winnicott’s lens of relational environment, holding, and play. The chapter describes how Winnicott’s relational and developmental focus moved the locus of healing from interpretive insight to creative, authentic engagement and environmental provision. The clinical emphasis shifts to timing, respect for the patient’s process, and a recognition of therapeutic limits, especially with those for whom pre-symbolic injuries predominate.
