Abstract

This chapter examines how newly qualified midwives begin to move beyond observation into relational antenatal care, becoming active participants in the emotional and physical journeys of their clients. Using the myth of Pandora as a metaphor, this chapter explores how exposing hidden emotions can also allow space for hope to emerge. While modern antenatal care is often dominated by surveillance and risk management, the newly qualified midwives learned to cultivate trust and dialogue. Through listening and embodied care, they gathered clinical information and learned to co-create safe spaces for women to reflect and find strength.
